Letter: CP Superintendent Thanks Voters

I write to extend thanks from the Carle Place School District for your support of the 2009-2010 school budget. Once again, community residents have demonstrated that they place a high value on the education of our children. The Carle Place Board of Education and the district administration have been keenly aware that decisions about the budget were especially difficult this year in light of the current economic conditions.

Going forward, I pledge that we will continue to provide a quality educational program for all students and will do so in an environment that values trust, honesty, integrity and safety. Additionally, we will work aggressively to maintain our existing facilities in a manner that actively promotes your home values and provides a measurable payback from the school community that you have supported so faithfully throughout the years.

In expressing our thanks for the community support of our budget, I also recognize that a number of our residents felt that they could not support the budget. To those who chose that option, I renew our promise that our budgeting efforts made this year were conceived in light of the fact that we are fully cognizant that the ensuing school year budget (2010-2011), and beyond, will present additional challenges for our small district. We remain committed that our budgeting efforts will continue to be centered around the concept of balancing student needs with what taxpayers can afford. We also remain committed, and would ask you to join us in our efforts, to engage State and local politicians in conversations to seek options to fund education in a manner that does not rely solely on the value of property.

The passage of our school budget is very much appreciated. Thank you for your support. We look forward to working diligently to advance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of our Carle Place students.

W. Michael Mahoney
Superintendent, Carle Place School District
