On Monday, July 20, the Marty Lyons Foundation will host its 24th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic at the Old Westbury Golf and Country Club. Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction, Inc., will be honored at the event as the 2009 Men of the Year. The golf-outing registration and brunch will be 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and the cocktail and dinner reception will be at 5:30 p.m.
Harney and Nahmias have both been involved in community charitable events and activities and have wholeheartedly embraced the Marty Lyons Foundation’s efforts to enrich the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses. In 2005, Harney and Nahmias co-founded Contractors for Kids (CFK), a nonprofit organization, to provide assistance to Long Island children and families in an effort to help them overcome life-changing events such as sickness, injury and death. In 2008 CFK helped over 50 families and distributed more than $250,000.
“It is an honor to share the Marty Lyons Foundation’s Men of the Year Award with Alan. We admire the work that Marty Lyons has done to make the wish children so happy. Marty is a role model for people like Alan and me. We have endeavored to help children and families that face obstacles in life and it is a difficult undertaking,” said Harney.
“The Marty Lyons Foundation is a remarkable organization. I am pleased that we have been able to work together for the benefit of so many children here on Long Island. While it takes hard work, it is most gratifying to be able to really make a difference in the lives of children and families,” added Nahmias.
The Marty Lyons Foundation is a nonprofit organization that has nine chapters in 11 states. The organization was founded by Marty Lyons, a former NFL defensive lineman for the New York Jets and member of the legendary New York Sack Exchange. The foundation grants wishes to children, between the ages of 3 to 17, who have terminal or life-threatening illnesses. Lyons was determined to establish a foundation dedicated to granting the wishes of seriously ill children after his own personal experiences with sickness and death. With the encouragement of his family and friends, he formed the Marty Lyons Foundation in 1982. Since that time the organization has worked to keep hope alive in the hearts of thousands of children and provide support to their families.
“The Foundation is very fortunate to have so many friends like Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias who understand what it means to be loyal supporters. Together we will continue to enhance the lives of more and more wish children in the years to come,” said Lyons.
Since it was established 27 years ago, the Marty Lyons Foundation has granted over 4,500 wishes that have truly brightened the lives of so many children. The Foundation encourages anyone interested in supporting the Marty Lyons 24th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic to contact it for information. Playing golf or attending the dinner helps to provide the Foundation with the resources that will allow it to fulfill its mission of granting children with life-threatening illnesses their special wishes. Golf packages, dinner tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available.
