The Carle Place Fireballs U13 boys travel soccer team made history by being the first team in Carle Place to win an Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) Challenge Cup for soccer.
On April 19, the Fireballs defeated the Auburndale Firestorm by a score of 4-1 and, a week later, beat the Lindenhurst Lighting Bolts 4-3. On May 9, the Fireballs defeated the Rosedale Rockets 2-1 and garnered a spot in the May 16 semifinals.
In the semifinals, the Fireballs once again defeated the Sachem Golden Eagles (2-0) for a place in the finals and went on to become the champions by defeating the Hempstead Tigers by a score of 1-0 in the June 6 ENYYSA Challenge Cup, which took place in Haverstraw. The Fireballs only let up five goals during the entire Challenge Cup.
Moving up a division after finishing undefeated in the 2008 fall soccer season, the Fireballs had a great spring season. They made it to the semi-finals for the Waldbaum’s Challenge Cup and led their division for the least amount of goals scored against them (giving up only five goals the entire season) to finish the season in second place for their division.
