TNH Hosts Annual Polar Plunge to Benefit Special Olympics

Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the North Hempstead Town Board invite all residents to join the hundreds of other brave souls who will dive into the frigid waters at North Hempstead Beach Park for the 8th annual Polar Plunge.  Sponsored by the Special Olympics, the “Freezin’ for a Reason” Polar Plunge will be held at North Hempstead Beach Park on March 3.  Registration will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and the Plunge will start at noon.

“Besides being a great event to socialize with family, friends and neighbors and engage in friendly and fun rivalry, the Annual Polar Plunge gives everyone the opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause,” Supervisor Jon Kaiman said. “I look forward to seeing you there.”

All funds raised support Special Olympics’ programs, and promote awareness of people living with intellectual disabilities in New York. In addition to Supervisor Kaiman, plungers will also include State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, Special Olympics athletes, students from local universities and high schools, as well as members of the community.

The Polar Plunge and Winter Festival features plenty of entertainment, a Nassau County Police Department display, children’s activities including professional face painting, and much more! Hot cocoa and winter treats will also be served.

Individuals or teams of plungers can earn fabulous prizes for raising the greatest amount of money.  To start a team, join an existing one, or enroll as an individual, log onto www.polarplungeny.kintera.org/ NHempstead and click the “Register Here” button.
