Three outstanding senior pitchers have anchored the 2012 Westbury varsity baseball team: Ralph Davis, Billy Casseus and Brandon Percival.
The team began their season with a home opening victory over Carle Place, 5-0, on March 30. Ralph Davis pitched and struck out 11 batters. This was a non-league game but a game that has been part of both team’s schedules for the past few years. It has been a well-played game with excellent sportsmanship for both of these neighboring baseball programs.
Westbury then began their countywide conference schedule against Elmont, who got the better of Westbury in the first two games. In game three of this series on April 12, Westbury rebounded and handed Elmont a 5-1 defeat behind the exceptional pitching of Billy Casseus. He struck out 13 Elmont batters over five-and-one-third innings. He allowed only three hits in this victory, which was Elmont’s only loss of the season at that point. The next league opponent for Westbury was Hempstead. On April 16, Westbury took the first game of this series with a 17-8 victory. Hempstead won game two of the series, 5-2, despite a strong seven-inning outing from Westbury pitcher Brandon Percival.
