CP Varsity Softball Enjoys Another Winning Season

The 2012 Carle Place varsity softball team posted an overall record of 19-4 and 11-1 in league play. The season was a success, as the team was named Class B/C conference champions and Class B county championships. The Lady Frogs were ranked first in the state for Class B schools. In 16 varsity seasons, the Lady Frogs have captured six conference championships, nine county championships, four Long Island championships and one Final Four finish at states.

A team consisting of 14 talented players, including senior captain Ashley Cole, captain Leanne Iannucci, captain Tori Hytell and Amanda Machado; juniors Taylor Ruscillo, Nicole Grande, Brooke Topel, Devin DeVeau, Jessica McMurray and Stephanie Konze; sophomores Kaitlyn Davis, Courtney Mulcare and Keara Mooney; and freshman Sarah Pisani.

Some of the highlights for the 2012 season included a team that had 549 at bats, 146 hits, 109 singles, 20 doubles, 13 triples, four home runs, 80 RBIs, 204 total bases, 418 putouts, 107 assists and a .974 fielding average.

Ashley Cole had an impressive season. She pitched two perfect games, May 3 against Glen Cove and May 23 against Oyster Bay in the Class B County Final. Ashley’s record was 19-3 with a .864 winning percentage on the mound. Her stats include 162.33 innings pitched, 297 strikeouts, 62 hits, only eight walks and an ERA of .39.

Congratulations to Ashley Cole (pitcher, All County), who received the Co-Most Valuable Player Award for the team and MVP for the county. Ashley was named All Long Island First Team, Leanne Iannucci (catcher, All County), received Co-Most Valuable Player and was named All Long Island Second Team and Scholar-Athlete Award. Tori Hytell (short stop) received All County honors and the Coaches Award. Amanda Machado (left field) received All Conference honors and the Outstanding Effort Award. Taylor Ruscillo (center field) received All Conference honors. Kaitlyn Davis (first base) received All Division honors and Brooke Topel received Most Improved Player Award. Chris Ceruti received Coach of the Year for Conference II.
