Westbury’s Wolverines Go 9-0 in Freshman Season

The Wolverines, Westbury’s new football team, is a force to be reckoned with! The Mighty Mights division not only won every game during the regular season but also shut out their opponents in every game. The Wolverines dominated the Harlem Jets and the Brooklyn Legendz, respectively, in the playoffs and continued their unscored upon season.

On Nov. 21, the Wolverines defeated Brooklyn by a score of 24-0. The Legendz were no match against Westbury’s defensive line and the Wolverines kept the Brooklyn team from crossing their goal line over and over and over again. The Wolverines’ offensive connection had one clear objective in mind – to score and score some more!

The Wolverines’ cheering squad was in agreement as they chanted, “Offense let’s score six points more!’ Additionally, the Wolverettes put on a flawless half-time performance.

The highlight was at the end of the playoff game when Courtney Pollins, president of the American Youth/NY Big Apple Football League of which the Wolverines are members, handed off the winning AYF/Big Apple Trophy to Head Coach Andrew Stewart and the rest of the team.  Flowers and sparkling apple cider were bestowed upon Cheerleading Coach Melissa Stewart for her class and warm spirit.

Congratulations were in order to all who participated for an excellent season!

The Wolverines will not be participating in the National Championship in Florida as earlier reported but some team members and their parents will be attending as spectators in Miami.

The team will hold an end of season parents meeting on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Westbury Recreation Center; the meeting will immediately follow the Boy Scouts of America Pancake Breakfast. All are invited to see footage of the games and of the half-time performances.  Community members and other interested parties will also be able to:  make inquiries; sign up for next season; meet and greet the players and cheerleaders; and congratulate the teams on their success!

The coaches welcome newcomers to the Westbury Wolverines Football, Cheerleading and Dance Teams. For more information, contact Andrew or Melissa Stewart at 451-0484 or visit
